URL Parser

Paste any link to see every part of it, each query parameter decoded, and the domain's DNS records.

  • WHATWG URL standard
  • Query and punycode decoded
  • DNS only on request

Paste a URL to break it down.

How it works

Paste a full link or just a domain. The address is parsed with the same WHATWG URL rules browsers use, then each part is shown separately with percent-encoding decoded. Query parameters appear as a key–value table, repeated keys included, and the whole structure can be copied as JSON.

https://[email protected]:8443/a/b?id=7#top → https · shop.example.com · 8443 · /a/b · id=7 · top

Parts of a URL

  • Protocol: the scheme, such as https, http, ftp or mailto.
  • Host: a domain name or an IPv4/IPv6 address. International names are converted from punycode.
  • Port: shown only when it differs from the protocol's default (443 for https, 80 for http).
  • Path: the location on the server, split into segments.
  • Query: key=value pairs after ?, joined with &.
  • Fragment: the part after #, which browsers never send to the server.

DNS lookup

For domain names you can also fetch the live DNS records: IP addresses, aliases, mail and name servers, and TXT records such as SPF. Nothing is sent until you press the button, and then only the host name goes to a public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver.

Standards and sources

  • URL parsing follows the WHATWG URL Standard and RFC 3986
  • International domain names: RFC 3492 (Punycode) and IDNA
  • DNS lookup: DNS over HTTPS (RFC 8484) via Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Google Public DNS as a fallback

Frequently asked questions

What does a URL parser show?

It splits the address into protocol, user info, host, port, path, query string and fragment, decodes percent-encoded text, and lists every query parameter in a table.

Can I paste a URL without https://?

Yes. If there's no scheme, https:// is added before parsing and the result says so.

Why does my domain look like xn--…?

International domain names are stored in punycode. The tool shows both the ASCII form and the readable Unicode name.

Is my URL sent anywhere?

Parsing happens entirely in your browser. Only when you press the DNS lookup button is the host name sent to Cloudflare's public DNS (1.1.1.1), with Google Public DNS as a fallback.

Which DNS records are shown?

A and AAAA (IP addresses), CNAME (aliases), MX (mail servers), NS (name servers) and TXT (SPF, verification and other text records), with each record's TTL.
