How it works
The image is reduced to small blocks, then scaled back up with sharp edges. Each block gets the average colour of the pixels inside it, which creates the mosaic effect.
When to use it
Hide faces, number plates, names or addresses in screenshots; make retro covers and thumbnails; or turn a photo into pixel art for a game or poster.
Tips
- Use PNG to keep the block edges sharp.
- Try 12–20 px first, then move the slider until the detail is right.
- For truly private information, cover it with a solid box: pixelation is not a guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is read and processed entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to beancuit or anyone else.
What block size should I use?
Start around 12–20 px. A larger block hides more detail and gives a stronger retro look; a smaller block keeps more of the original.
Can pixelation be undone?
Not perfectly. Pixelation throws away detail, but some patterns can be estimated. For sensitive information, cover it completely instead of relying on pixelation.
