How it works

Enter the weight and purity of a ring, chain, coin or bar. The calculator works out the pure metal content (weight × fineness) and values it at the live spot price in your currency.

If a buyer offers a percentage of the metal value, such as 85%, enter it to see what you would receive. The table shows the same weight at every other common purity.

Local weight units

Bullion is traded worldwide in troy ounces, but shops in many countries still quote traditional units. The unit menu converts the live price into each of them.

Karats and fineness

A karat is 1/24 of the total mass. Hallmarks show fineness in parts per thousand, so 18K is stamped 750 and 14K is stamped 585. Prices here use the hallmark fineness.

Tips

  • Weigh the item on a kitchen or jewellery scale in grams; stones and clasps add weight but no gold.
  • Look for the hallmark: 750 means 18K, 585 means 14K, 925 means sterling silver.
  • Get quotes from more than one buyer. Offers of 70–95% of metal value are common, depending on the item and the shop.

About these prices

These are reference spot prices, not dealer buy or sell quotes. Coins, bars and jewellery sell above spot (premium), dealers buy back below it, and VAT, GST or other taxes may apply depending on the country. Exchange rates are reference rates, not your bank or card rate. Nothing here is investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much is 10 grams of 14K gold worth?

10 g × 0.585 = 5.85 g of pure gold. Divide by 31.1035 and multiply by the spot price per ounce. Enter 10 g and 14K to see it at today’s price.

Why do buyers pay less than this value?

Refining, testing and the dealer’s margin are deducted. This is the melt value of the pure metal, the ceiling of what a buyer can pay.

Does the weight of stones count?

No. Remove or estimate stones, springs and steel parts; only the precious metal has melt value.
