How it works

The live silver spot price (XAG) is loaded in US dollars per troy ounce and converted into your currency with the latest reference exchange rate. Choose grams, kilograms, ounces or a local unit such as the tola or tael.

The price updates every minute while the page is open. The history chart uses daily average spot prices (hourly futures closes for the 1W view, and futures as a fallback), converted with the exchange rate of each day.

Local weight units

Bullion is traded worldwide in troy ounces, but shops in many countries still quote traditional units. The unit menu converts the live price into each of them.

Tips

  • Sterling silver is 92.5% silver, so its metal value is 0.925 times the fine silver price for the same weight.
  • Silver premiums on coins and small bars are much higher in percentage terms than on gold.
  • Many countries charge VAT or GST on silver bullion even where gold is exempt, which raises the retail price.

About these prices

These are reference spot prices, not dealer buy or sell quotes. Coins, bars and jewellery sell above spot (premium), dealers buy back below it, and VAT, GST or other taxes may apply depending on the country. Exchange rates are reference rates, not your bank or card rate. Nothing here is investment advice.

Frequently asked questions

Why do silver coins cost more than spot?

Spot is the wholesale price of large bars traded between banks. Coins, small bars and jewellery carry a premium, dealers buy back below spot, and some countries add VAT or GST.

How much is 1 kg of silver worth?

Multiply the spot price per troy ounce by 32.1507, the number of troy ounces in a kilogram. Choose “kilogram” in the unit menu to see it live.

Is the chart the spot price?

Mostly yes: it shows daily average spot prices. The 1W view, and any time the spot history is unavailable, uses closes of the nearest COMEX silver futures contract, which moves with spot but is not identical. The line under the chart says which one you are looking at.
