How it works

  • Press play to animate the top 20 economies by GDP from 2000 to 2025. Bars resort every year with smooth animation.
  • Drag the year slider to freeze any moment, or change how many countries are shown.
  • The full data table ships with the page, so the ranking works even offline. Only the animation library loads from the network on first play.

Good to know

  • Values are nominal GDP in current US dollars, not adjusted for inflation or population.
  • Country names follow your page language automatically.
  • Nothing is stored or sent anywhere. The page only fetches the chart library when you press play.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the numbers come from?

GDP in current US dollars from the World Bank indicator NY.GDP.MKTP.CD, built into the page for the years 2000 to 2025. Newer years appear after the Bank publishes them.

Why do some bars jump in 2020?

The pandemic shrank most economies in 2020 while a few kept growing, so ranks shifted more than usual that year. The data shows nominal dollars, not inflation-adjusted growth.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The full table ships with the page, so the ranking and the year slider work without a network. Only the animated chart library loads from the network on first play.

Is this financial advice?

No. Past size says nothing about future returns. The chart is for reference and fun.
