How it works
The live gold spot price (XAU) is loaded in US dollars per troy ounce and converted into your currency with the latest reference exchange rate. Pick any weight unit, from grams and kilograms to the Korean don, the Indian tola, the Hong Kong tael or the Thai baht, and the karat table shows what 22K, 18K or 14K gold is worth by the gram.
The price updates every minute while the page is open. The history chart uses daily average spot prices (hourly futures closes for the 1W view, and futures as a fallback), converted with the exchange rate of each day, so you can see the trend in your own currency over a week, a month, a year or five years.
Local weight units
Bullion is traded worldwide in troy ounces, but shops in many countries still quote traditional units. The unit menu converts the live price into each of them.
| Unit | Grams | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|
| Troy ounce (ozt) | 31.1035 | International bullion markets (London, New York, Zurich) |
| Don (돈) | 3.75 | Korea; 10 don = 1 nyang (37.5 g) |
| Tola | 11.6638 | India, Pakistan, Nepal and Gulf gold souks |
| Tael (兩), Hong Kong gold | 37.429 | Hong Kong and Macau gold trade (troy tael) |
| Liang (两), mainland China | 50 | Mainland China (市两); 10 liang = 1 jin (500 g) |
| Baht weight (บาท) | 15.244 | Thailand; quoted on 96.5% gold bars |
Karats and fineness
A karat is 1/24 of the total mass. Hallmarks show fineness in parts per thousand, so 18K is stamped 750 and 14K is stamped 585. Prices here use the hallmark fineness.
| Karat | Fineness (‰) | Gold content |
|---|---|---|
| 24K | 999 | 99.9% |
| 22K | 916 | 91.6% |
| 21K | 875 | 87.5% |
| 18K | 750 | 75% |
| 14K | 585 | 58.5% |
| 10K | 417 | 41.7% |
| 9K | 375 | 37.5% |
Tips
- Jewellery is priced by its gold content: 18K is 75% gold, so its metal value is three quarters of the 24K price for the same weight.
- Compare a dealer’s quote with spot: the gap is the premium (when buying) or the spread (when selling).
- In Korea and India, shops quote separate buy and sell prices per don or per 10 g; both differ from spot.
About these prices
These are reference spot prices, not dealer buy or sell quotes. Coins, bars and jewellery sell above spot (premium), dealers buy back below it, and VAT, GST or other taxes may apply depending on the country. Exchange rates are reference rates, not your bank or card rate. Nothing here is investment advice.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the price at my jeweller or bank different?
Spot is the wholesale price of large bars traded between banks. Coins, small bars and jewellery carry a premium, dealers buy back below spot, and some countries add VAT or GST.
How is the price per gram of 18K gold calculated?
Spot per troy ounce ÷ 31.1035 gives the price per gram of pure gold; multiply by 0.750 for 18K. The karat table does this with the live price.
Is the chart the spot price?
Mostly yes: it shows daily average spot prices. The 1W view, and any time the spot history is unavailable, uses closes of the nearest COMEX gold futures contract, which moves with spot but sits slightly above it because of carry costs. The line under the chart says which one you are looking at.
